If you ask someone for a video poker strategy when they play regularly, you are apt to receive as many different answers as there are those who play the game.
The point of the game is, pure and simple, to get the best hand. To accomplish this, you need to hold any card or cards, which will get you the best pay.
What Video Poker games are there?
There are several different video poker games but the easiest is said to be Jacks or Better. In this video poker game, you will want to hold a Jack or above. After the draw, if you do not have a pair or a Jack, you will need to look for a sequential set of cards that might give you a straight, such as a seven, eight, nine, and ten.
Another way to win at video poker would be to have a hand containing cards of the same suit, called a flush. This means that you would have all hearts, spades, diamonds, or clubs. If lady luck is smiling on you, a straight flush is a hand that pays well. Like the name implies, it combines the straight and flush so you have sequential cards in the same suit.
A Royal flush pays the most but is harder to draw the hand and that is why it is coveted by poker players. It consists of an Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten, of the same suit.
You also get a better payoff if you have what is called a Full House. It is three of a kind and a pair.
There are also the lower rated payoffs, such as two pair, which pay less because they are easier to draw. Three of a kind, or four of a kind, each pay a little more, but again, it is because it is less likely that you will have these dealt to you and harder to draw the cards you need.
Are particular machines better than others?
Many video poker players have certain type machines that they like to play. Some believe that their luck is enhanced by pre-game rituals. But all in all, learning which cards to hold and when, is really the best strategy. So choose a simple machine to start with and then once you have th ehang of the game choose the flashier more complicated looking machines to play.
