Tens or Better

In most ways, Tens or Better video poker games are the same as Jacks or Better. The one difference: The payout table's lowest hand is a pair of tens instead of a pair of Jacks. This is an important difference, however, since it gives you a higher chance of getting a hand, which pays out. Still, this obviously means that the payouts will be slightly less.

The hand ranking in Tens or Better is similar to other standard games of poker. The hand ranking goes like this, from high to low: Royal Flush, Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, Full House, Straight, Three of a Kind, Two Pairs, Pair (which must have a pair of Tens or higher to count as a Pair), and High Card.

How do you play?

Here's how Tens or Better Video Poker is played:

First, find the place on the display where you can choose the coins that you want to wager for the round. Select either the minus or plus sign to indicate how much you want to wager. These signs will be over on the screen's right side.

Then choose either Bet Max or Bet One to select how many coins you want to bet on. Selecting Bet Max increases, the bet to the highest allowed and then deals the cards. Selecting Bet One allows you to add more coins to the bet. You then must press "Deal" to set the round in motion.

After the computer deals the cards, pick any you want to discard, and then press DEAL. The video game will get rid of your discarded cards and replace them with new ones. If you didn't have any winning hand, the game will end and then start over with a new hand. If your hand did win, you may at this point collect what you've won or double down.

If you decide to double down, the video machine will select a card, place it face up, and then deal you four more face down. You then are to select one of the four cards. You lose your winnings if your card is lower than the card that's displayed. You double your winnings if your card is higher than the one that's displayed. If they're the same rank, you can collect the money or try to double down again.

Is it easy to win?

Tens or Better has a higher percentage of winners than other games, and for many people, that's all they need to know to give it a try. If nothing else, it's fun to try it once or twice.
