Deuces Wild is a video poker game, which uses a normal 52-card deck of playing cards. In this variation of poker, all of the deuces / twos act as wild cars. This is good in that it gives you an increased chance of a winning hand. However, this is offset by the fact that you get nothing for a pair or two-pair hand (Three-of-a-kind is the lowest payout hand).
Since you have four wild cards, you'll hit a Flush and Full House more often than you would in other forms of video poker. This makes it worth pursuing these hands more so, perhaps, than it would be in other types of poker.
There's also a slight difference in how the hands are ranked in Deuces Wild. That's because, with wild cards, it's now possible to have a Five of a Kind. Further, a Four of a Kind hand sometimes pays more than a Five of a Kind, if the four cards are Deuces. Royal Flushes don't count for much less made without using wild cards.
As with other forms of video poker, the payout schedules fluctuate quite a bit. At one casino or machine, a Full House might offer 4 coins, whereas elsewhere, it might offer 6.
Deuces Wild can be quite interesting due to the wild cards. They change the strategy significantly. In fact, the strategy so much affects the game-play that there is little middle ground with Deuces Wild: People either love it or hate it.
Any simple tips?
Here are some tips to keep in mind if you decide to try your hand at Deuces Wild. Remember that if the best you have in your initial hand is a single card, the only single you should hold is a Deuce. Your first instinct will probably be to hold onto a single Ace, however, it does nothing for your hand. Discard it.
Remember that a pair is always better than a flush or four-card straight.
Don't hold onto two pairs. You have to get rid of one and draw three more cards.
Remember to try for those Four of a kind hands: They are your bread-and-butter in this game, accounting for about a third of wins.
